Or 30 000 bruants ortolans sont tués chaque fin d'été dans le département des Landes (France), avec l'aval des autorités pourtant chargées d'appliquer la loi et la réglementation. Pour la LPO, une telle situation est intolérable.

The Ortolan bunting is a migratory bird the hunting of which has been banned since 1979, it has been a protected species since 1999.
However, 30,000 Ortolan buntings are killed every year in late summer in the Landes département, south-west France with the approval of the authorities responsible for law enforcement. For the LPO/BirdLife France, this situation is intolerable.

10h40 Les oiseaux blessés seront envoyés dans les centres de sauvegarde. Les blessures sont majoritairement dues à une détention longue (grande fatigue, ailes luxées par les diverses manipulations voire de mutilations des ailes pour éviter que les oiseaux ne s'envolent).

Parfois même, ce braconnage, de notoriété publique, alimente un trafic juteux. Pour rappel, ces pratiques d’un autre âge sont passibles de 15.000€ d'amende et d’ 1 an d'emprisonnement !

10:15 The bird in the cage is an Ortolan bunting. The conditions in which it is held are stressful and traumatic for the birds, of which numerous are often wounded or mutilated before being killed. Occasionally, this poaching provides a lucrative trade for restaurants. N.B. These activities are punishable by a fine of €15,000 and a year in prison!
